Start with our king sized poster bed. We ended up getting it 50% off retail because the furniture store we normally shop at said that they were now unable to sale traditional styled pieces. I wanted something we could hang onto for sometime, and didn't want to go with anything trendy. I priced it online and couldn't get within 500 dollars of the price of my local gallery!
And this weekend I found something I have been wanting for *years*. I know that highboy dressers aren't in style right now. Nor have them been for about ten years! But, I LOVE them. I have wanted one since the first time I saw one- in my high school best friend's mother's bedroom. I fell in love with the classic styling and the broken pediment top.
So, I have been scouting craig's list trying to find one and this weekend we did. This highboy had been listed for several months- the listing being repeated every 5-6 weeks. I emailed the owner and found out it was still available. She had it listed for 200.00.
It is in good shape- its made by a reputable furniture company (but not high end), and it had been well taken care of. It does need a few touch ups, but its solid wood. She dropped the price fifty dollars before I even had a chance to think about it (In my head I heard Jennifer Lopez saying "Oh no you didn't!"), and I knew at that minute I would leave with it for 75 less. And we did.
So here is my 125.00 highboy dresser, which is storing my husbands things. We can now tell my mom to sale our maple dresser (hubbies) which didn't match a thing we own out of the WV barn. The dresser that I have my things in is in the guest room with its matching queen sized poster bed.
This is a view of our room from the doorway. That rocker is just there in that corner temporarily, it goes on my side of the room, but I keep one of the big twins travel cribs there to help transition them from one room to the other without leaving someone unattended (we have breakfast in my bed every morning).

Here is a close-up of the highboy. It looks like it was made with our bed!

I had a somewhat stressful ob appointment today. I am measuring smaller than I did two weeks ago. She managed to get me worked in to the perinatologists office tomorrow to quickly determine whats going on. I have consistently measured 4 weeks ahead the entire pregnancy (with twins its normal to measure even 8 weeks ahead), and this time I only measured one week ahead, which means a week smaller than I measured two weeks ago. The ob is hoping that one of the babies has went transverse (side lying). That would make my waist wider, but my fundal height- what they measure- smaller. I also hadn't gained weight in two weeks. I bought some protein powder on my way home to add to shakes.
I will post an update tomorrow, as well as come big twin pictures!

175!!!! WOW! What a find! I wanted an antique looking bed for us and our local antique shops are outrageously over priced. We live near Salado (google it and you can see some of the beautiful shops) and though the shops are wonderful to look through they really are "proud of their merchandise" as my husband puts it.
So I found an antique *looking* bed at JC Penny for only $197! I am a huge fan of metal beds because I grew up in a farm house with all antique metal beds. It's hard to find them in King and impossible in Cal. King so this was really the next best thing.
I made my own curtains and finishd it off with some things from the Shabby Chic line at Target and I'm pleased with it even though it's not nearly finished.
Oh Lizzie, I love your bedroom... especially the High Boy. I too, have always loved them. But I have ALWAYS wanted one of those lingerie chests... tall and narrow... hope you know what I'm talking about. I rarely see them, but I will start looking on Craig's List. Thanks for inspiring me to begin my quest!
Keep us posted on your Dr. visit tomorrow... take care... we're praying all is well.
Such a great bargain! I really don't believe in trends. I think you should develop a style and let it be timeless for you. It only matters that it is what you love. The high boy looks wonderful with your other things in the room.
Please take good care of yourself and I will be looking for an update on how things are going dear friend! I am thinking of you...
The tall boy looks great and right at home.... I hope all is well with you & your double troubles.... Wow! One set of toddling twins & another on the way! Thanks for your comment on my blog, BTW
Huge hugs on the stressful appointment! Think good thoughts, and I'll be thinking them for you!
Take a peek at my blog post from this morning. I can't believe I nominated such an elegant lady as you for a "Rockin' Girl Blogger" award, but I did! Hope it sounds like fun to you. You already known how much I enjoy your blog! :)
Lizzie, I'm a visitor from Aisling's blog, The Quiet Country House. I enjoyed your description of your furniture purchasing. I'm always happy when someone finds a bargain. I've just heard about Craig's List and now I'm eager to visit it myself after hearing about your experience. I hope all goes well during your appointment with the perinatologist.
Wow, Lizzie, what a great find & great price on that piece. It is a classic & does look like it was made for your bedroom. I know you must be so excited about it. Congrats...you can keep that piece forever. I'm not much on new furniture either, I would much rather buy a piece that's older & REAL wood.

How lucky you were to find such a great piece at a GREAT price. You can't go wrong with real wood furniture!
Your bedroom has the same furniture as mine! I too love the look of a highboy & we have a rice bed.
We're "twins!"
Keep us posted on the pregnancy.
Don't you love it when you find just what you are looking for, and at a great price too?!
:)
Wow, your room is beautiful! I love all of your classic furniture. Don't get me started on overscaled faux iron and wood...And that rocker and settee are fab!
The highboy looks perfect in your bedroom. I'm so glad you found it.
Glad you got a good report, too. Hope you have a fun 4th with your parents.
